Mon Sep 12 06:04pm

Outlined below are the changes which take effect from 11.59pm tonight (12 September):

·      Household contacts of COVID-19 cases will no longer need to isolate, but instead should undertake a RAT test every day for 5 days. This change will help to alleviate some of the pressure I know you are feeling on teaching and staff numbers. It will also mean that children and young people who are asymptomatic household contacts of confirmed cases will be able to attend school in person, including for assessments and national end of year exams.

·      Mask wearing is no longer strongly recommended.

– If a child has been unwell with a respiratory illness other than COVID-19, they can return to school 24 hours after they have significantly improved and are behaving/eating normally.
– Following vomiting or diarrhoea, a child should be symptom free for 48 hours before they can return.
– If they still have a runny nose or dry cough without any other symptoms such as a fever, vomiting or diarrhoea, then they are unlikely to be infectious and can be considered well enough to attend school.
– In general, a doctor’s certificate or clearance should not have to be provided for a child to go back to school after being unwell.

Health messages & reminders for the start of Term 3. A newsletter is coming out later today (Friday).

Fri Jul 22 11:26am

COVID 19 – If a person develops new COVID-19 symptoms, and it’s 29 days or more since their previous infection, it’s possible that it’s a reinfection with COVID-19 and they should take a rapid antigen test.  If that test is positive, they will need to isolate for a second time for seven days.  The 3 month ‘grace period’ if you have had COVID is no longer valid.

Masks – It is now required that all students Y4 and above wear a mask indoors (including at assembly) for the first 4 weeks of Term 3. This will be reviewed at the end of the 4 weeks.  Please see below a letter sent out to schools from the Ministry of Education.

We know that some of our tamariki/ākonga are exempt from wearing a mask. If they have an exemption card or a letter from their health provider, or we have agreed that mask wearing is not practicable for them, we will support them to not wear a mask. The process for this changed on the 9th June 2022.

End of Term FYI’s

Thu Jul 07 12:36pm

We are nearing the end of Term 2 (3pm Friday 8th July).

Mid Year reports went home yesterday. Please check your child’s bag for their report or let us know if you haven’t received it yet.  Booking links for 3 Way Conferences will be in tomorrow’s newsletter. These conferences are a perfect opportunity to discuss student progress and achievement.

Each term we have 1-2 emergency drill practices. Today we had our first lockdown drill (as required by the MoE). It went pretty well. The main message for a lockdown drill is ‘Be still, be quiet, hide where you can’.  Staff have been going through our procedures with students and there may be some conversations at home. We are aiming to remain calm about lockdowns and not create unnecessary worry – we do however need the kids to know the plan and we do need to practice.

BoT elections are coming up soon. If you would like to put in a nomination please contact Amy Strang who is our returning officer – details below. Nomination forms will be coming out via email during the holidays.
